The first version of my online portfolio went online in mid 90s and was just a simple HTML page with a few images. And yes, it did have an animated "Under Construction" image (let's face it though, all webpages back then had one).
Over the years the portfolio has grown in complexity in terms of technology that powers it. But it has always remained true to its roots. That is to be a simple, elegant and an easy to browse portfolio.
A few years ago it had already evolved into a portfolio which used PHP, style sheets and Javascript. At theĀ beginningĀ it was just simple things, like a news script which would allow me keep the visitors updated and what I've been doing lately. Later full blown PHP frameworks(CodeIgniter & CakePHP) would come into play and be used as the backend.
The latest version of the portfolio is powered and updated entirely through WordPress.
Just as the backend has grown and evolved over the years, so has the frontend. While there's something to be said about doing your portfolio all by yourself, there's something more to be said (and I'd like to cover this in a future blog post) about having an outside designer design the portfolio. Especially if it's an accomplished designer.
This latest version, just like the previous one, was designed by Mark Dormand. And if you are more into the market for a designer, be sure to check out sreski where Mark Dormand has his online portfolio.
