Instead live in Russia. Yes I know, I “thieved/liberated” this picture from English Russia, but I don’t think that many people here actually check that blog on daily basis so I thought I’d spread the love.. err.. the image of course.

Reading online web comics is one of my favourite ways to spend my time online, and I do read quite a lot of them. I think I have blogged or talked about A Softer World, Diesel Sweeties, and of the course there’s everyone’s favourite Penny Arcade and/or Ctrl Alt Del (because certain people can actually like both of them).
But this time around I want to mention kawaii not. Kawaii(from japanese, meaning cute) not, as the name already implies is a comic about cute things not being cute, not at all. For example a strawberry saying, “You are berry, berry lame”. It’s really something that one has to see to really enjoy.
Another week, and another great post with lots of images on English Russia. This time it’s about cakes as you can see in the image bellow. Yes, that’s a cake, an edible cake. And no, I don’t know why anyone would go for such a tacky cake, but believe me, that’s by far not the tackiest one on the list.

Another thing that I noticed while looking at all of these cakes is that Russians must really love Americans. There are so many cakes that mimic something American that it’s unbelievable, be it a car, beverage, or even a hamburger. Just plain crazy.
We all know that advertising for most parts are crap, tedious, annoying or all three at the same time. But that doesn’t mean that there aren’t a select few gems out there that are well done, and deserve the praise for standing out from the jungle of advertisements that surround every one of us on a daily basis.
One such ad can be seen bellow, and while it may not be what everyone would consider a great ad(read: “You pervert! What were you thinking when you posted that image?!”) I think it’s great. For one it catches everyone’s eye, especially if you have to walk through there, and secondly it makes sense unlike a lot of the ads these days.

There are several sites which collect such ad design gems, and my favourite so far is Ads of the World. They have well over 5,000 ads that are noteworthy, divided up into several categories for ease of finding things that could interest you.
Just as a little side note, the new Durex XXL ads are hilarious. NotEvenOnce has some really great, and shocking ads as well, so those who like design and have some free time be sure to head over to Ads of the World and have a look around.
“a softer world” is a webcomic, but not just any webcomic. It’s one of the best, and most importantly smartest webcomics out there. While most webcomics deal with silly things, that are mostly just plain dumb, a softer world is very different. It’s smart, touching, and stylistically very well done. Probably my favourite webcomic right now.

There are no main characters, or storylines in “a softer world”, it isn’t there to tell any particular story, so you get surprised with something brilliant every time they upload a new strip. The comic is done by Emily and Joey. Highly recommended and well worth the read.
