Trigun Review

It’s that time again, I have just finished two different anime series, Cowboy Bebop and Trigun. First I’ll review Trigun, and then at some later point Cowboy Bebop (I’m saving the best for later).

Trigun is about a man named Vash the Stampede, also known as the Humanoid Typhoon. Who later in the show is declared as the first act of God. Why is that so? Well as the story unravels, we find out that he has destroyed a whole city(luckily killing no one) by himself, and thus gets a $$60 billion(double dollar, the currency in Trigun universe) bounty placed on his head. And as one would guess, such a huge bounty goes a long way to make Vash’s life very unpleasant. Not to mention the fact that he remembers nothing of the city destroying incident.

Trigun main characters and a random guy on the left

The show is mostly a comedy action western, though it gets much darker near the end. The really cool thing about Trigun, apart from some really ungodly good comedy bits, is the way it deals with death and killing other people and beings. You see in most anime’s the characters kill left and right, not really thinking about what they are doing, as if it’s their second nature to do so. Whereas in Trigun, death is treated like something that has(or can lead to) grave consequences. But it’s not an anti gun or anti war propaganda show, far from it.

Vash The Stampede or The Womanizer

Trigun is 26 episodes long, so there’s very little room for filler episodes unlike in most other longer shows, and that’s what I really like about these 22 to 26 episode long series. Every episode has something to say in one way or another, and you aren’t just fed some mindless filler. The characters in Trigun are very interesting, though sadly there isn’t much in the way of character development. But that’s not something that stops Trigun from being a very enjoyable show to watch.

Music is quite nice, a mix of Jazz, Rock and even some Electronica thrown in for the baddies. The quality of artwork is overall very good as well, it’s not mind blowing, but there are no bad eye-sores, or distracting things.

Vash the Stampede being silly again

So would I recommend Trigun for my readers, especially the anime fans of you? I most certainly would, it’s very funny when it’s being funny, and very smart or dramatic when it needs to be, and it tells a great story of a man who is trying to save everyone on his planet, even if it may seem futile.

Just a quick note. Over the next few days I’ll be doing various things to the blog that most people probably wouldn’t. So if you see anything strange going on, or get weird error messages, don’t worry. That’s actually a good sign, as it tells you that I’m busy working(read: breaking) the blog to improve it.

One thing that I need to properly re-do are the google adsense ads, still not too sure about their placement so I’ll be experimenting with that over the next few days. And of course the usual, upgrading and adding new plugins that should make the blog more enjoyable.

Well well, SGN certainly can be a gold mine from time to time, and I’d like to thank Thot Gor from SGN for finding this clip. It would seem that Mr. T has made a come back, sadly it’s only for an ad campaign for Snickers, so nothing too big, but it’s still great to see him in action.

They have even created a full site for the ad campaign where you can download all sorts of goodies, and it looks like there will be a “Ask Mr. T” section soon. Check it out at Get Some Nuts. And no I’m not being paid for this, just informing the world about the latest happenings of the bestest person ever.

Windows Vista

I remember saying on SGN that I won’t try Vista out until Microsoft, nvidia, or the makers of STALKER and Gothic 3 release fixes that make those games compatible with Vista. But then I realised that I haven’t played either of them in quite a while, especially Gothic 3.

So I thought to myself, hey why not try out Windows Vista, you have an hour or two to spare today to install it, and have been looking for an excuse to re-install your main OS for quite a while on your gaming rig anyway. So I did, and my first impressions of Vista can be summed up by the following two words, flashy and annoying.

Windows Vista - Also known as Windows Hen

Flashy is quite straightforward, Vista’s Aero interface is very flashy, and shiny. It reminds me a lot of Mac OS X, basically a very cute/pretty pastel(in Mac OS X’s case it’s white) coloured interface with lots of round corners and transparency. At first it seems quite the overkill but one gets used to it quite quickly and then it seems nice. I just wonder how much longer it will be till I start finding it to be annoying and useless.

Now to the annoying bit. I’m a power user, emphasis on the power bit, I like to turn things upside down in my main gaming OS. I use shell commands, clean up services, edit the registry by hand, and a lot other things, and this is where Vista really gets in the way. “Do you want to continue” pops up just about every step that I make, luckily that can be turned off somewhat, but even after turning it off I run into it.

Overall, I think that Microsoft is actually going into the right direction with Vista, making it even more accessible and usable for the average Joe user. Not to say that there aren’t enough improvements for the power users.

Reading online web comics is one of my favourite ways to spend my time online, and I do read quite a lot of them. I think I have blogged or talked about A Softer World, Diesel Sweeties, and of the course there’s everyone’s favourite Penny Arcade and/or Ctrl Alt Del (because certain people can actually like both of them).

kawaii not - the comic for cute gone bad

But this time around I want to mention kawaii not. Kawaii(from japanese, meaning cute) not, as the name already implies is a comic about cute things not being cute, not at all. For example a strawberry saying, “You are berry, berry lame”. It’s really something that one has to see to really enjoy.
