Until now I’ve been using various combinations of video players, VideoLAN(VLC), Windows Media Player(WMP), mplayer, QuickTime Classic, and so on. As well as having Firefox plugins to download videos from video sites such as YouTube, and of course players that could playback “flv” files as well that come from those sites.

Democracy Player

But no more. I finally got around to installing the latest version of Democracy Player. And now I can pretty much watch all my videos, download and watch anything from YouTube inside the player itself. But that’s not all. The player has support for bittorrent as well, not only that, but there is a large number of channels for it already where you can watch hours and hours of quality video content.

Optimus Keyboard News

Some great news for people who have been waiting on the Optimus keyboard from Art Lebedev. No, it’s not out yet, but it’s really great news for people who don’t want to spend $500+ on the keyboard. The keyboard will have user-changeable keys, which means that there could be several models of it. Some less expensive than other.

Optimus Keyboard from Art Lebedev

So basically a “starter model”, could merely have the F-keys as OLED displays, the next model could have the full QWERTY layout as OLEDs, and finally the “full model” could have all 103 OLED keys as in the original concept renders. Another thing to note is that there can be three different types of keys on the keyboard. Standard plastic, backlit single-function and OLED keys.

And finally, Art Lebedev plans to sell the keys separately as well, so you can basically order three or five OLED keys if you want, and when they arrive, you can replace your standard plastic keys on the keyboard with the brand new OLED keys. Quite cool if you ask me.

I have been debating the whole day on what to post on my blog today, initially I was thinking about posting a link to another blog where they have collected lots of free illustrations for Adobe Illustrator, but then I realised that this video from George Takei is just so much much more funnier that I decided to post about it instead. And also, I doubt that most of my readers do professional or semi-professional designing anyway.

George Takei - Mr. Sulu

Now, we all should know who George Takei is. He played Mr. Sulu in Star Trek, even though I don’t like Star Trek I still know this. A while ago he “came out of the closet” and publicly said that he was indeed homosexual. With which there is nothing wrong of course. At least not to most people. But then there are people like Tim Hardaway, who seem actually like a cool guy, an NBA star who has won many cups, awards and what not.

But then he says something like, “Well, you know, I hate gay people. I let it be known I don’t like gay people. I don’t like to be around gay people. I’m homophobic. It shouldn’t be in the world, in the United States, I don’t like it.”

And that just ain’t right. Luckily enough, there are people who view this with humour, and actually make fun out him for saying such things. And this is where George Takei’s video comes in, it’s just such a brilliant reply to Hardaway.

Watch the video at Influks.com.

It’s one thing to make the scammers reply with humorous replies, or even produce art pieces such as a wood carved Commodore 64. But this one takes it to a whole new level. It doesn’t matter if you don’t know who Nigerian 419 scammers are(like there’s anyone on the internet who doesn’t know who they are and what they do) or even the story behind this video, because it’s all explained in a short introduction in this video before the sketch itself.

I must say that these guys are actually quite good, at least the one with the dead parrot. For those of you who haven’t seen the original sketch by Monty Python, you can watch it YouTube as well.

James Bond Casino Royale

Yes I know it’s a 2006 movie, and we already have 2007, but I always get around to watching or playing things later than most people. And in some ways I think it’s better this way, because I’m not as much affected by all the hype that surrounds these things when they come out.

Daniel Craig as 007 James Bond

Casino Royale is the 21st James Bond movie, it’s based on the Casino Royale novel by Ian Fleming that was written back in 1953. It is also has a new actor for James Bond, Daniel Crag. And while there was a lot of talk about him, and how he is nothing at all like James Bond, or even how much a weakling he is, I think he did a great job of resetting the James Bond movies. Just like Pierce Brosnan did with GoldenEye. Not to mention that Casino Royale was also directed by Martin Campbell who was the director of GoldenEye.

And what a great reset this is to the James Bond movies. In Casino Royale James Bond has just become an MI6 agent with a license to kill. It’s also important to note that Casino Royale is a reboot of the whole James Bond series, so this movie actually doesn’t precede Dr. No or any other movies. Instead, it’s a whole new timeline, and that’s what had me confused at the beginning, but now it all makes sense.

James Bond and Bond Girls

The new Bond is a lot more brutal, a lot more reckless, likes dirty jokes, and has less class and style than Brosnan’s Bond. Not to mention the fact that Brosnan looks a lot better in a suit than Craig ever will. Having said that, it works really well in the story, Bond is still a raw diamond, just at the beginning of his career. Lots of action in this lengthy movie as well, action and humour, and everything that makes James Bond a Bond, cars, gadgets and women.

So for those of you who still haven’t seen it yet, the DVD should be out in a month, or if you live in some weird country, like I do, that gets the movies later than the rest of the world, you should check if it’s still on in the cinemas.
